Hey all -- I'm a newbie with iPhone photography and looking for some advice, especially with my new iPhone 12 Pro. I made the switch from an iPhone SE 2016 a few months ago, and the camera on the new phone does a few things that bug me, and I'm not quite sure how to adjust. I'll show some examples.
Example A
The problem in Example A is focus, I believe. I know the iPhone, unless I tap on the screen, focuses automatically, but I think the depth of field is consistently shallow. Everything in this shot is blurry except for some of the leaves in the foreground. This is an extreme example, but I've noticed in a lot of landscape shots that I can't get sharpness across the image. Any ideas?
Example B
I think the problem in Example B is contrast. The tree on the right get swallowed by overexposure. I have HDR set to automatic, but I feel like the HDR setting on my old iPhone was a lot better at handling this sort of contrast than the new model. To be clear: that's not direct sun in the sky on the right. It's just clouds. Is there a better way to handle this?
Example C
My problem in Example C is shutter speed. It's just a bit too long in this image, which was a darker scene than what's pictured. The camera automatically used a longer shutter speed, which made everything brighter. It's also why the two trackworkers are a bit blurry. I feel like my old iPhone was less aggressive with shutter speed. When I took a picture without much ambient light, I used to get a dark picture. I've heard about third-party apps. Would that help me here? If so, what's the best app? I've looked at a lot of lists and seen a lot of recommendations.
Thanks!
