I'm a little stumped. This can get confusing so let me clarify: HDR can mean 2 things.
- The technique of merging multiple photos in 1 to recover highlight and shadow details.
- A color space that, on supported devices, show higher brightness (nits) range.
I’m talking about #2 above.
My iPhone photos have physically brighter highlights. On my iPhones display, reflections of the sun get beyond the white level of the UI and is awesome and bright. But when I take photos with my mirrorless, process the RAW in Lightroom or photoshop, I just can’t get the whites to be any brighter than the SDR range. As a result, all my “good camera photos” look flat in comparison.
Inspecting the exif, the only difference is that iPhone photos are HEIC, 8-bit display P3; Lightroom exports JPEG, 8-bit display P3.
Does anyone know why? Is there a way to export my photos in HDR? I was able to get a video from the SAME camera to become HDR in LumaFusion by dragging the levels beyond the original limits. I wish I could do the same for photos
