Well... I updated my iPhone 8+ from my long and trusty iOS 11.3.1 to iOS 13.6 this month, and it seemingly is one of the biggest mistakes I’ve made in years (and I broke my own cardinal rule of not updating my Apple products if nothing is wrong).
I am starting to get really fucking pissed off... I am the true definition of an iphoneographer as for a long time now (years) it is literally my weapon of choice in most situations.
After numerous camera ailments after upgrading... turn off Auto HDR if anyone is getting blurrier or grainier photos with seemingly different focusing abilities after updating as that’s what I found was the problem with my camera... a distinct quality difference that most people claim to be a conspiracy LOL, no, rather a change in the iOS “features” hidden in deep settings. Similar in circumstance as Apple ‘upgrading’ by changing the entire colour profile of the screen, at least I am used to that now.
Alright here is what is driving me absolutely fucking mental. For as long as I’ve had iCloud and had optimize my iPhone space activated, obviously it would upload the bulk majority of my photos (with some unknown date cutoff for ‘recent’ ones) and WHENEVER I needed the high res version of a particular one from a while ago or forever ago... you click on the photo, the little download pie in the corner kicks in and you get the HD copy of that INDIVIDUAL photo to do what you like with.......... i have absolutely ZERO desire, nor do I have the space on my phone to download my entire 83gb HD iCloud Photo Library onto my iPhone.... and now, it seems that the ability to download the HD version of individual photos AS NEEDED is completely gone, evaporated from my device. All I have on any photo (even from about 2 weeks or so ago) is the little circle+exclamation mark in the right hand corner of said photo.... what the absolute fuck??? Clicking on edit for most of them: Cannot load photo, there was an error loading this photo. I cannot get an iCloud link when I try and ‘share’ the photo (I have no intention of sharing I want them to download onto my phone)... and absolutely unequivocally anything that is old and without a doubt on iCloud... not a chance I can get the high res versions of that when I desire.
I have 200gb of iCloud storage for the 28k+ photos currently up there, I have 24gb on my 64gb iPhone 8+. Like I said, I have no desire to download my entire library nor would I be able to onto this phone... and I’ve never had to consider doing that since I started using iCloud a year and a bit ago as I’ve always been able to get the HD version of a particular individual photo to edit/upload/share/view as I so wished, on this exact phone, with the roughly the same number of photos, same iPhone space, same iCloud space, same network speeds (cellular and home network) ONLY this fucking different iOS.
Every once-in-awhile photos would take longer to download and I would see the circle with exclamation mark in iOS 11.3.1... and I’d give it some time and the HD version of that photo would show up. Now, not a single thing I want will download...
Please help me. Am I going to have to throw my phone against a wall and shatter it into pieces? I don’t want too, I just want individual HD versions of photos to download from my iCloud as they used to.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
